Drinks Trolley

Privacy policy

Last updated 25 September 2026

Drinks Trolley collects no personal data. There is no account, no sign-in and no server behind the app. Everything you put into it stays on your phone, where we cannot see it.

The short version

What the app stores, and where

Drinks Trolley keeps the following in its own private storage on your iPhone:

This information never leaves the device. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we have no technical means of reading it. It is included in your iPhone's own backups if you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, in which case it is protected by Apple's arrangements for those backups rather than by anything we do. Deleting the app removes all of it permanently.

The camera

The app asks for camera access only so that it can read the labels on bottles you choose to photograph. When you take a picture, the text on the label is recognised on the device itself using Apple's built-in text recognition, which runs offline. The photograph is held in memory only for as long as that takes, and is then discarded. It is not saved to your photo library, not written to storage and not sent anywhere.

The app does not request access to your photo library, your location, your contacts, your microphone or your health data.

What we don't do

The app contains no analytics software, no advertising software and no third-party tracking code of any kind. It does not use the advertising identifier, does not create any identifier of its own, and does not track you across other apps or websites. Because it has no server component, there are no server logs, no IP addresses recorded and no database of users.

Links to other websites

Some screens link out to other sites — drinks retailers where you can buy an ingredient, a web search for an unusual bottle, and drinkaware.co.uk for guidance on drinking. These open in Safari and carry no information about you: no identifier, no record of your cabinet, nothing beyond the name of the thing you tapped. Once you are on another company's website, that company's own privacy policy applies, not this one.

Information Apple holds

Downloading an app is a transaction between you and Apple, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy rather than ours. If you have opted in to share analytics with developers in your iPhone's privacy settings, Apple may show us anonymous, aggregated figures such as how many people installed the app or how often it crashed. These cannot identify you and we receive them from Apple, not from the app.

If you email us

If you write to us for support, we will have your email address and whatever you choose to put in the message. We use it only to answer you. We do not add it to any mailing list, we do not pass it to anyone, and we delete correspondence once it is no longer useful. Please don't send us anything sensitive — a support question never needs it.

Children

Drinks Trolley is intended for adults over the age of 18 and is rated accordingly. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — which, since we collect nothing at all, is straightforward.

Your rights

Data protection law gives you rights over personal data held about you, including the right to see it, correct it and have it erased. Because the app holds your information only on your own device and sends us nothing, there is nothing for us to show you, correct or delete: deleting the app does all three. Those rights do apply to any email you send us, and we will honour a request about that correspondence.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy — if it gained an account, a backup service or any form of analytics — we will update this page and change the date at the top before that version is released. The version of this page live at the time you use the app is the one that applies.
